A sprinkler system inside the room activated immediately which also prevented the fire from spreading any further.

Kent Fire and Rescue revealed the fire started in the staff toilet in the basement service area of the Tunbridge Wells shopping centre, which activated the sprinkler system.

The sprinklers limited the fire but three fire engines attended, including a crew from East Sussex Fire and Rescue to tackle the blaze at 3.20pm

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire then pumped the excess water from the centre.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

Royal Victoria Place refused to comment on the incident when the Courier contacted them earlier.
