Why install domestic fire sprinklers when I’ve got smoke alarms

Domestic fire sprinklers are rescuing family belongings and homes from devastation and should be as widespread as smoke alarms as a precautionary measure in protecting property and belongings.

Yes, smoke alarms are an important warning for occupants when a house fire starts and provides valuable time to escape the building. The building however cannot escape the ravishes of fire, once it takes hold, and even when the fire rescue services arrive, there is sometimes very little that can be done if the fire is raging.

The emotional and financial devastation that fire causes families and individuals is unimaginable. Often irreplaceable items and memories are destroyed and homes are devastated and lost forever.

The destruction of fire can and would be significantly reduced as shown by a number of recent fires which have been reported where domestic fire sprinklers stopped the fire at the point of ignition.

One of which broke out in a housing association property in Chelmsford, Essex on the 12th may 2014. It is reported that a fire started in a lower bunk bed, in a first floor bedroom of a two storey terraced house. Upon being alerted, the occupier tackled the fire with saucepans of water but the heat and fire continued. Once heat from the fire rose, it activated one sprinkler head positioned in the bedroom. It is understood that no fire-fighting action was needed by attending crews due to the actions of the occupier and the sprinkler system.
